Why Protectionism, Not Economic Liberalization, Will Worsen The Coronavirus Epidemic In Any Infected Country

It's a good thing that Filipinos are TEMPORARILY banned from going to South Korea for their own good. South Korea even raised a red flag because the Coronavirus outbreak is out of control. However, I'm glad to hear that South Korea is TAKING ACTION and it has the RESOURCES. Now, before anybody can start saying, "Well blame free markets for the Coronavirus!" - you can consider the fact that the virus itself can hit any country whether it's a free market or not. All it needs are suitable conditions to breed and multiply. For example, the Coronavirus is hitting Japan not because it's a free market but because it's a cold country.

Let's consider the reality of the Coronavirus spread. A recent report from Cebu Daily News has it that his majesty Emperor Kim Jung Un of North Korea warns of serious consequences if virus reaches North Korea. However, the same link that has Emperor Kim warn about it also describes North Korea as, "The impoverished nation, with a weak and ill-equipped healthcare system, has closed its borders to prevent the spread of the disease into its territory." Close the borders? Is that the best North Korea can do? While having a travel ban is indeed a safety measure but is it enough? You can also consider that (according to Al Jazeera) the Philippines is actually ILL-PREPARED for the Coronavirus threat. I wonder if Filipino activists will blame foreign investors (while hypocritically using foreign-made equipment) for the entrance of the Coronavirus in the Philippines?

Instead, I'd dare say that while South Korea may have risen the red flag but who can be sure if North Korea isn't the worst-case now? Censorship is so bad in North Korea that they may already have a high death rate from the Coronavirus for all we know. Protectionism NOT free markets has caused North Korea to become an impoverished nation with a very bad healthcare system. South Korea's FREE MARKET would provide the money that the government needs to buy necessary materials for disinfection. Maybe, just maybe, South Korea's government may give us better news and that North Korea would have its cases rising far worse than the Philippines in the next couple of days, weeks, or months. Maybe, Filipinos will get permission to fly to South Korea soon but not to North Korea, right?

Why is South Korea well-prepared for the Coronavirus attack that hit it as of late? It's because it's a free market. South Korea long removed excessive restrictions on foreign investment. The result of free markets in South Korea makes it a progressive country. North Korea is so protective of its economy that it has resulted in massive unemployment. You can consider how there's even talk that a patient in North Korea was allegedly executed for having been infected by the Coronavirus. Is that the best that North Korea can do if ever that's true? Does North Korea even have enough hospitals to contain those infected? Maybe for those in power but what about the citizens? For South Korea, there are more than enough hospitals with good service because they're a capitalist country. See the difference or you just can't see it?
