Ticking Time Bomb: ABS-CBN May Most Likely Air Vagabond Dumb Dubbed In Tagalog

This week's Vagabond episode featured a time bomb at the South Korean embassy in Morocco. Well, ABS-CBN did organize an event with Lee Seung Gi and it can't be denied that they can't actually operate without having to air foreign shows huh? Now, the bigger time bomb is that ABS-CBN may be airing Vagabond any time soon. Yup, you can expect another dispassionate dub out of it. They did also air Lee Seung Gi's other projects namely My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, King 2 Hearts, Gu Family Book, and Hwayugi which were all badly dubbed.

Many of the Tagalog dubs whether it's ABS-CBN or GMA-7 (doesn't matter now) can raise the question of how often are you willing to let their dubs numb your mind? I remembered I didn't really mind the bad dubs in College (such as I was still willing to watch the cheesy Filipino-English 80s dub of Chodenshi Bioman or any Toku show in particular) until I kept watching them with subtitles and the original audio. The Bioman dub just sounds really bad already after I've seen the show subbed by Grown Ups In Spandex. Meteor Garden in Tagalog no longer appeals to me after seeing it in Mandarin with English subtitles.

The countdown for ABS-CBN airing Vagabond may be closer than you think. Yup, the franchise renewal is still there. ABS-CBN is still getting its franchise renewed (maybe it paid whatever alleged deficits there are) and it's entirely up to Congress, not President Rodrigo R. Duterte who does have valid concerns due to its partisan business practices. It might air it next year or maybe even this December (depending on when ABS-CBN gets the rights to air it) and I'm really afraid of yet another mediocre job. I would probably blame it on them airing the shows nightly which means that they don't have enough time to rehearse or correct anything.

Worse to worse, you may get Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla voicing both Go Hae Ri and Cha Dal Gun. We're going to see these guys really ruin the show's image with bad dubs. Like, I can't even sit through either one of them. Maybe it's because of their arrogant behavior or what. But I just can't imagine both of them getting the task on hand! I'd probably go crazy if they do get the dubbing job! Kathryn is really OA and so is Daniel.

Though I think ABS-CBN could "redeem" itself with letting Shaina Magdayao voice Go Hae Ri since she can actually act. That scene in Ipaglaban Mo in the episode "Obsession" makes comparing her to Kris Aquino a far-fetched thing. The emotions were intense and I could feel her tears there. The scene was based on a real incident that happened way back in 1946. I could feel the intensity of the situation as Shaina's character Shirley evades a man named Erwin who lusts after her. Worse, the incident involves Erwin trying to rape her. Erwin would later attempt to touch Shirley's private part that led her to finally snap and kill him out of self-defense. The tears Shaina showed in every scene where she's either about to be raped or molested are convincing. I think she can handle it as Hae Ri's voice actress though!

Either way, be ready for yet another bad dub by ABS-CBN!
